sustainable brands I love

Changing the way we consume goods requires mindfulness. Most items are curated to grab your attention, and  you will naturally fall prey to intelligent marketing teams.

My advice is this: don’t attach self-worth to anything you own. You shine already without branded labels. If you believe that, no matter what you wear or buy can dim your own light. I say this often, but your world is a reflection of what you pay attention to. Focus on health, skin care, eating clean, and radiance will be nothing less than expected.

That being said, you can’t wear the same 2 shirts for the rest of your life so here’s my list of sustainable and ethically made brands that I absolutely LOVE and will continue to support so as long as my financial position affords me the luxury. But first, a few reminders:

  1. Beware of greenwashing: Businesses know all things related to ‘sustainability’ is trending the charts. So, they have been tacking on buzzwords like “clean” and “ethically made” without being transparent in their sourcing, manufacturing locations, and waste production metrics

  2. Thrift: Thrifting is one of the best ways to feed the fire without breaking the bank. I both sell and purchase using poshmark and ThredUp. Shop my poshmark closet: should you so please. My favorite in person thriftstore is Crossroads!

  3. Buy staple pieces: I want to caveat this by saying staple pieces should fit your style. Live your best life! Wear color and patterns! But the pieces you buy should be things that you see yourself wearing for the next 10-15 years (Our parents still somehow have jeans from the 90s) Staple pieces often tend to cost a bit more so you should be in it for the long haul regardless of your style changing

  4. Rent: Renting clothing for one-off events is the way to go. My favorite clothing subscriptions services to use are Nuuly, Fashion Pass, and Rent the Runway. RTR also sells Indian clothing from Sani. However, these are expensive to use, and not financially feasible for the average consumer. They are also not the most environmentally sustainable option, either.
